Shoe launch by INGUNN BIRKELAND OSLO

August 11th 2011

Shoe launch by INGUNN BIRKELAND OSLO
Thursday 11th of august at 19.00 - Prinsengate 10

The shoe collection is a commercial continuation of Birkeland’s avant-garde fashion show pieces. The launch will take place at the opening of an exhibition where, in addition to the shoe collection, Birkeland will show conceptual art work within textile art and one-off shoe pieces. The common thread that connects the commercial collection and the artwork, is the use of time-consuming techniques and intricate handcrafted details.

Shoe collection progressing

June 22nd 2011

Just came back from my third visit to the shoefactory in Elda, and I brought many more prototypes back home with me. There are still going to be adjustments of the colours and lines, but you’ll get an idea. I am now in the middle of planning the launching of the shoes which will happen at the opening of my exhibition of tekstileart pictures in the beginning of august. The time and place is not yet set.

Designing shoes in Spain

May 16th 2011

This week I have taken a break from dressmaking to visit the shoe factory in Elda in Spain, for a follow up on the production of my first shoe collection.

This is my second visit, and it feels like being in a candy store. I get lost in leather samples in every color of the rainbow. It is a tough challenge to limit myself. We also visited a shoe heel factory - fascinating! I ordered one of the highest heels possible for one of my pairs.

At the moment I am working on a sandal, which will be available in two different heel heights and in a variety of colors. I am also looking into the possibility of making purses.

For more information about my new shoe collection, read here.
